Strait of Taiwan

 

  • Location: Separating Taiwan from mainland China.The Taiwan Strait is a body of water that separates the island of Taiwan from the southeastern coast of China. It’s an important pathway for ships, as well as a region with rich history and political significance.

The Taiwan Strait is about 130 kilometers (80 miles) wide at its narrowest point and around 180 kilometers (110 miles) at its widest. It spans approximately 360 kilometers (220 miles) from north to south.

Strait of Magellan

  • Location: Between mainland Chile and the Tierra del Fuego archipelago.

Bab-el-Mandeb Strait

 

Location: The Bab-el-Mandeb Strait is located between Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula and Djibouti and Eritrea in the Horn of Africa. It connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea.

Importance:

  • Shipping Lane: The strait serves as a critical gateway for oil and cargo shipments traveling through the Suez Canal. It’s like a narrow door that all the ships have to pass through to get from the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean.
